Elrod and Ronnie Allen Entertain
by Bob Augustin Jr.
The Lawrenceburg Rotary Club was regaled by the antics of WDXE Radio Personalities Elrod and Ronnie Allen at its July 27 meeting. The duo was joined by Bill Phillips on stand-up bass and Harold Richman on dobro and guitar. This was the group's first gig, not that anyone noticed. The band was so new that they still haven't decided on a name, but Elrod said they have narrowed it down to either "The Social Security Boys" or "Old and In the Way" before choosing "Z.Z. Flop."
World renowed Ralph Stanley impersonator Elrod Moore wowed the crowd with a selection from his Ralph Stanley Tribute Show. Rockabilly Hall of Fame member Ronnie Allen did his rendition of "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain." Next on the play list was Harold "Pee Wee" Richman yodeling Eddy Arnold's "Cattle Call." Elrod ended the show, and possibly the careers of several band members, with his crowd-pleasing and ever changing version of David Allen Coe's "You Don't Have to Call Me Darlin', Darlin'."
Elrod was joined by his son Dylan who sat quietly off to the side hoping no one would think we was with these guys.
