Howard Street Bluegrass Ensemble Spreads Holiday Cheer
by Bob Augustin Jr.
The Howard Street Bluegrass Ensemble made their fifth annual appearance, under five different band names, at the Lawrenceburg Rotary Club's Christmas meeting on December 21, 2007. The HSBE played their Christmas program, including such holiday favorites as "Christmas Times A Comin'", "What Child Is This", "Jingle Bell Blues", "Santa Claus Blues" (also known as "Salty Dog") and "Orange Blossom Special. (Okay, "Orange Blossom Special" isn't a Christmas song, but then again, neither were most of the rest of them.)
HSBE is comprised of, left to right, Vance Jack on dobro, Mandy Spearman on guitar, Rodney Krick on stand up bass, Andy Spearman on fiddle, Mickey Crews on guitar and vocals, and Buddy Looney on banjo and vocals.
