Voice of Titans Speaks at Rotary Club
by Bob Augustin

Mike Keith, The Voice of the Tennessee Titans, was the special guest speaker at the May 14, 2010 meeting of the Lawrenceburg Rotary Club. Mike addressed the Titans' prospects for the 2010 NFL season. Considering the additions to the team that the Titans' made in the recent NFL draft choices, their game schedule for 2010 season, the return of key veteran plays and the fact the Titans' found their team identity the last half of the 2009 season.
Mike predicted the Titans would be in contention to be the AFC South Divisional Champs in 2010. He then stated that he had predicted the Titans would be battling for the AFC Title in 2009 and they started the season 0-6 and his i as a prognosticator took a big hit. Mike said there was a combination of reasons for the Titans' disappointing start: injuries to key player; a tough schedule, starting off with the NFL Champion Pittsburg Steelers, the Houston Texans, the New York Jets, and losing all of them by a touchdown or less, and then playing Jacksonville, the Colts and the Patriots; and key veterans who didn't perform up to their 2008 season levels. After the six losses, the Titans found their identity and they jelled as a team. In addition, they switched to Vince Young as quarterback, who had matured immensely over the pass two years. Mike was quick to add that Kerry Collins was not the cause of the 0-6 start and Titans were fortunate to still have him on the team as a veteran back-up quarterback.
When asked about the condition of LP field, Mike said the field was not the problem. Every news broadcast in America had used the arial shot of the field in their coverage of the Nashville flood, but the field wouldn't have flooded had they not lost electricity to the stadium which stopped the pumps from removing the water. In any event, the turf would be removed this summer before the CMA Music Festival, as it is every year, and would be replaced before the beginning of the season. The real damage was to some of the locker rooms, particularly the Tennessee State University locker room.
In addition to his play-by-play duties for the Tennessee Titans, Keith hosts the weekly Jeff Fisher Show and handles many of the daily Titans Reports on Titans Radio. He also writes a regular column for Titans Radio's web site, TitansRadio.Com. The National Association of Sportscasters and Sportswriters has named Keith as Tennessee's Sportscaster of the Year six times since 2000.
