Club Announces Scholarship Recipients

The Lawrenceburg Rotary Club opened their April 27 meeting with a tribute to long time Rotarian Roy Smith who passed away April 21. Roy had been a member of the club since 1953, was a Past President, a Paul Harris Fellow, and had 48 years of perfect attendance. Roy will be sorely missed.
Rotarian Randy Brewer, Co-Chairman of the Scholarship Committee, presented the program. Each year the Lawrenceburg Rotary Club awards $6,500.00 in scholarships to Lawrence County students through the James L. Johnston Scholarship, the J. Mack Chandler Agricultural Studies Scholarship, the Commitment to Community Service Scholarship, the Vocational Scholarship, the Will R. Manier Jr. Scholarships, and the Outstanding Student Awards.
The Outstanding Student Award recipients are selected by each of the three county high school’s faculty. Summertown High Principal Bryan True presented the SHS Outstanding Student Award to Allison Durham and Nick Dickey. Lawrence County High Principal Mickey Dunn introduced Allison Beeler and John Dansby as the LCHS recipients. Loretto High Principal David Daniel introduced Ashley Kennedy and Matthew Engelhardt as Outstanding Students at LHS.

Randy Brewer then announced the winners of the Rotary Club Scholarship for 2007. Beth Hall from Loretto High and Holden Killen from LCHS received the Will R. Manier Jr. Scholarship. As the club’s Will R. Manier Jr. Scholarship winners, each will receive a $500 scholarship and be nominated for the Rotary District 6760 Will R. Manier Scholarship. This is a one-time, one year scholarship in the amount of $1,500. The Distrcit awards eight scholarship: four males and four females.
The Commitment to Community Service Award winner was Brianna Beck from LCHS. She will receive a one-time, one year scholarship in the amount of $500. The winner of the Vocational Scholarship was Damian W. Gieske of Loretto High. He will receive a one-time, one year scholarship in the amount of $500. The J. Mack Chandler Agricultural Studies Scholarship winner was Isaac Belew of LCHS. He will receive a one-time, one year scholarship in the amount of $1,000. The 2007 recipient of the James Johnston Scholarship was Lakesha Moore of Loretto High. The James Johnston Scholarship is a four year scholarship in the amount of $4,000.

The RoAnn Club presented their scholarship winners at the April 27 meeting. The winners of the RoAnn Scholarships were Jody Springer from Summertown High and Kelsey Patt and Sandy Taylor, both from Lawrence County High.
