Mrs. Jewel Smith Presents Minutes Book to Club
By Bob Augustin Jr.

Mrs. Jewel Smith, widow of the late Roy Smith Jr., presented the Club with the original Minutes Book of the Lawrenceburg Rotary Club at their May 10, 2007 meeting. The bound book covered the minutes of the club from 1947 to 1955. The book chronicled the chartering of the club in 1947, the purchasing of new playground equipment for Lawrenceburg Public School, the Rat Eradication Project in 1948, and the club's purchase of the Middle Tennessee District Fair and Fairside Park, now known as Rotary Park, in 1950.
Mrs. Smith discovered the book while going through Roy's papers after his death in April of this year. Realizing the historical value of the book, she had brought the book to the office of Rotarian David Allen a couple of weeks earlier. Allen asked Mrs. Smith to present the minutes book to the entire club at its regular meeting. Lawrenceburg Rotary Club President Neal Beard accepted the book on behalf of the club.
