Tennessee Sec. of State Hargett Addresses Rotary Club
by Bob Augustin Jr.

Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett was the special guest of the Lawrenceburg Rotary Club at its November 13, 2009 meeting. Secretary of State Hargett presented a brief outline of the duties of the Secretary of State. Sec. Hargett said that since very few Tennesseeans knew what the Secretary of State did, one of his duties would be to educate the people of Tennessee on the duties of the Secretary of State.
The duties of the Secretary of State in Tennessee include:
1) publish the Tennessee Blue Book; 2) act as the official recorder for the Governor;
3) sign extradiction papers; 4) hold elections; 5) oversee the Tennessee State Archives and Regional Library system; and 6) operate the Division of Business Services.
Sec. Hargett stated that his mission was to create a customer-based enviornment in the Tennessee state government. The citizens of Tennessee, by paying their taxes, are the customers of the Tennessee government and it should be the job of every Tennessee government worker to give the taxpayer quality service for their money.
